Novum SP1000 – Felting & Embellisher Punching Machine
The Novum SP1000 Embellisher is Novum’s first machine dedicated exclusively to needle-punch felting, opening up an exciting world of textile creativity. Also known as a felting machine or embellisher, the SP1000 allows you to combine fabrics, fibres, yarns and threads into richly textured, three-dimensional surfaces — without thread, without a bobbin, and without conventional stitching.
Designed to unlock true creative freedom, the SP1000 enables artists and makers to produce completely original textile designs. By layering materials and guiding them freely beneath the needles, you can build depth, texture and sculptural effects that are impossible to achieve with standard sewing techniques. Every creation is unique, making this machine ideal for fashion design, textile art, quilting, home décor, mixed-media projects and wearable art.
Thanks to its thread-free operation and intuitive design, no prior sewing experience is required. Beautiful results can be achieved from the very first use, making the SP1000 equally appealing to beginners and experienced textile artists seeking new creative possibilities.
Unlike a traditional sewing machine, the Novum SP1000 uses specially designed barbed felting needles instead of thread. As the needles punch through the fabric layers, the barbs catch, pull and interlock fibres, permanently bonding them together. This process allows you to felt wool roving into fabric, embed yarns and decorative fibres, and create raised, sculpted textures with remarkable depth and consistency.
The machine operates without feed dogs, meaning the fabric is moved entirely by hand. This gives complete freedom of movement in all directions — forwards, backwards, sideways and diagonally — allowing you to “draw” with fibres in a highly intuitive, expressive way.
The SP1000 is often used alongside a conventional sewing machine, enabling you to embellish fabric panels first, then transform them into finished garments, cushions, bags, wall hangings or fibre sculptures.
The multi-needle felting system delivers faster, deeper and more uniform felting than single-needle tools, ensuring professional-quality results with minimal effort. Fine barbs on each needle securely bind fibres together, creating durable, long-lasting embellishment.
Practical design features include a built-in needle guard for safety, an easy-access lint and fibre collection area for simple maintenance, and a free-arm configuration, making it easy to embellish sleeves, cuffs and smaller tubular projects.
